While the awards take place inside, much of the publicity and excitement takes place outside with journalists discussing the red carpet fashions, what designers are being worn by which stars and photographers taking pictures. Those who brought tradition to the red carpet won my admiration. Those Kente and other African prints were impressive. However, It was appalling to note that the simple but ever-present question  “Who are you wearing” could not be answered by many.

Should fashion be accepted because it originates from a foreign land? Celebrities can be very influential.  Are their influence only meant to promote foreign trends? Trends will fade but our original identifiers will forever remain. The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards like any other awards held locally and internationally should be a platform to promote African or Ghanaian culture namely traditions, designers, hairstyles etc au lieu de wear foreign designers. Our Ghanaian industry has gifted, qualified designers and hairstylists that need promotions too. When a gift is not utilized it dies out. Give them your attention!!
