I remember how I used to follow the conventional way of basing my scalp with “hair food” with the aim of promoting my hairs health and growth. I later realized that these soul called products contain ingredients like Petroleum jelly, Paraffin, Mineral oil and sometimes Alcohol which can cause product build-up, clog and irritate the scalp.  These creams were heavy and difficult to be absorbed by the skin. However, this made basing your scalp a little harder than usual.

But guess what? Our bodies naturally produce an oil called SEBUM which is what helps keep our skin including the scalp and hair lubricated. However because of the way natural hair grows it makes it difficult for the sebum to travel all the way to the ends of the hair. There are times when your scalp does feel a little dry and itchy. In these instances I would advise that you base your scalp to lubricate it and to relive the itching. I would recommend that you choose oils that are light, easy absorbing and that will not cause further build-up. Oils I would recommend are Jojoba oil, Olive oil, Grapeseed, Coconut Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, and Rosehip Oil.

Basing your scalp can be a lot more easier if you know how. Simply massaging your scalp with oils, not just any oils but oils that can easily penetrate your pores will  stimulate blood circulation and give your hair shine while promoting growth. The treatment will also prevent your hair from becoming brittle.

Here are three (3) oils and their benefits:

Afrocabello Castor Oil Range for basing your scalp

  1. Castor Oil: Castor oil is well known to have outstanding uses and benefits. Castor oil contain omega-6 essential fatty acids, and ricinoleic acid which aids in accelerating blood circulation to the scalp, hence increasing hair growth. It also strengthens the roots, condition the hair and help to treat scalp infections. Since black castor oil is noted to be thick, mix needed quantity with coconut oil to get a lighter consistency before applying in the hair.
